Kentucky insurance licensing exam prep

Study for Kentucky's Life and Health exams against KDOI's own outlines.

Kentucky is genuinely different from almost every other state we cover: the Kentucky Department of Insurance (KDOI) administers its own exams directly at community and technical college testing centers statewide, with no Pearson VUE, PSI, or Prometric contract involved. LicensePath's diagnostic is built from KDOI's own published Life and Health study outlines instead, category by category.

Exam snapshot

What the real Kentucky exams look like.

50 + 50 Scored questions on the separate Life and Health exams (50 each); KDOI does not publicly disclose a time limit or pretest-item policy for either

Exam weight by area, both exams combined
100 scored Qs
  • Life insurance product knowledge: 47% (47 of the Life exam's 50)
  • Health insurance product knowledge: 46% (46 of the Health exam's 50)
  • Kentucky statutes & regulations: 7% (7 of 100 combined)

This is the real, fixed weighting from the Kentucky Department of Insurance's own two exam outlines, combined.

Blueprint categories

Two separate exams, mapped from KDOI's own study outline.

Kentucky's outline is a fine-grained study-manual table of contents (21 life units, 13 health units), not a vendor content outline with Texas-style category percentages. LicensePath keeps the national side as one coarse product-knowledge bucket per exam rather than inventing a 9-category split the source doesn't support, while breaking out Kentucky's own law section on its own.

Kentucky Life

50 scored questions
  1. Life Insurance Product, Policy & Underwriting Knowledge47 of 50
  2. Kentucky Statutes & Regulations3 of 50

Kentucky Health

50 scored questions
  1. Health Insurance Product, Policy & Underwriting Knowledge46 of 50
  2. Kentucky Statutes & Regulations4 of 50

Question counts are each section's real share of the 50-scored-question total, drawn from the Kentucky Department of Insurance's own Life and Health study outlines. Both exams' law sections cite the same core KRS Chapter 304 provisions (guaranty association, producer licensing, unfair trade practices), so LicensePath shares that verified content between them rather than authoring it twice.

Why sourcing matters

Built from current Kentucky Revised Statutes, not a stale study guide.

Every Kentucky question in LicensePath traces to the current text of Kentucky Revised Statutes Chapter 304 and 806 KAR 17:081, fetched directly from the legislature's own site rather than recalled from KDOI's outline, which itself still labels its state-law unit "Kentucky Insurance Laws and Regulations 2007." Where a topic's outline citation turned out to point to the wrong statute on direct reading, we track down and cite whichever statute actually contains the rule.

Curious how state exam blueprints are built, or why every practice question carries a citation? Two short guides cover both: what's actually on your state's insurance exam and why we cite every practice question.
